The Hilltoppers sent their three seniors out on a high note last night in Bowling Green as WKU knocked down some late freebies to hold off a tough Louisiana Lafayette squad 75-72. The Toppers clinch the valuable number 2 seed for the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.

George Fant led the way for Western scoring 18 points, 13 in the second half and grabbing 8 rebounds. Freshman guard Chris Harrison-Docks had 15 points, including a perfect 10-10 from the charity stripe. Senior Okaro Akamune, in his final home game tied his career high with 10 points.

NBA scouts were on hand to get a look at Lafayette point guard Elfrid Payton. Payton did not disappoint dropping 31 points and grabbing 13 rebounds in a losing effort.

Western closes out the season tomorrow night at Georgia State before heading into Tournament play next weekend. As the two seed Western will receive a “double-bye” which means that they will only need to play two games to win the conference tournament.

WKU has one the last two conference tournaments and are looking to tie the league record of three straight in this, their last season as Sun Belt members. Western moves into Conference USA next year.
