WKU HOOPS | Lady Toppers Take Down Florida International

The Lady Hilltopper’s Basketball team welcomed in 2017 with a dominating performance over Florida International University, taking down the Golden Panthers 90-38.

In the first quarter at Diddle Arena, the Tops held FIU to just four points to their 26. They proceeded to outscore them 15-11 in the second quarter, 24-12 in the third quarter and 25-11 in the fourth.

WKU forced 31 turnovers, which translated to 45 points on the board for the Hilltoppers.

Kentucky transfer Kyvin Goodin-Rogers had a career-high since arriving on the Hill with 18 points. Ima Akpan also notched 18. Ivy Brown contributed 11 and recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 11 rebounds. Tashia Brown and Whitney Creech each tallied ten. Kendall Noble had just four points, but ten boards, nine assists and five steals.

WKU’s 31 turnovers and 24 steals is tied for third-most in a single game in program history. FIU was 0-6 from the three-point line.

FIU fell to 2-11 and 0-2 in the conference. Western completes a five-game home stretch undefeated, bringing their season record to 10-4 and 2-0 in C-USA play.

WKU hits the road for the first time in 2017 to face Charlotte on January 5 at 10:30 a.m., then Old Dominion at 3:00 p.m. Saturday.
