The Western Kentucky football team’s 13-game Conference USA winning streak is now over.
Louisiana Tech snapped WKU’s streak on Thursday night by beating the Hilltoppers 55-52.
Western Kentucky (3-3, 1-1) took the first lead of the night early in the first quarter thanks to a Mike White nine-yard touchdown pass to Nicholas Norris.
But, Louisiana Tech (3-3, 2-1) answered shortly thereafter courtesy of a Ryan Higgins touchdown pass to Carlos Henderson.
From there, the scoring went back-and-forth, but WKU never took the lead again.
In fact, Western found itself down by 21 points heading into the fourth quarter, as the Bulldogs had the lead 52-31.
The Hilltoppers mounted a comeback, scoring a touchdown on a blocked punt return with just over five minutes to play in the game, cutting the home team’s lead to three. That’s as close as they got though.
WKU had a chance to win the game inside the final three minutes, but Mike White fumbled the football and Louisiana Tech recovered it. From there, the Bulldogs wasted the clock.
By the end of the night, both quarterbacks, WKU’s Mike White and Louisiana Tech’s Ryan Higgins had each thrown five touchdowns in the game.
Meanwhile, two receivers, WKU’s Nicholas Norris and Louisiana Tech’s Carlos Henderson each accounted for three of his team’s touchdowns.
On deck for Western Kentucky is a trip to Middle Tennessee State. WKU plys MTSU Saturday, October 15 in Murfreesboro, TN at 2:30 p.m. ET.
