The Eastern Kentucky and Western Kentucky basketball squads are among the 16 teams that have been selected as participants for the 2014 Preseason Women’s NIT. The selections were officially announced on Wednesday by Triple Crown Sports.

It was previously announced that WKU will host an opening round game in the prestigious 2014 Preseason Women’s NIT at E.A. Diddle Arena on Friday, Nov. 14. The game will mark the season opener for third-year head coach Michelle Clark-Heard and Western Kentucky.

The field includes: WKU, EKU, Albany, Arkansas State, Central Arkansas, Colorado, Jackson State, Mercer, Mississippi State, North Dakota, Penn State, Rider, Seton Hall, St. Francis Brooklyn, Towson and West Virginia.

The Preseason WNIT is formatted to give all teams a three-game guarantee. The event opens Nov. 14-15 with Round One. Round Two will be played Nov. 16-17; Semifinals will be Nov. 19-20; and the championship is set for Sunday, Nov. 23 at 3 p.m. ET. The championship game will be nationally televised live in HD on CBS Sports Network.

Teams that lose in the first two rounds will play consolation games on Nov. 21-22. All games are hosted by participating schools. The official tournament bracket with first-round opponents, game dates and times will be announced in June.

Last season, Louisville won the Preseason WNIT by beating Oklahoma in Norman in front of over 7,500 fans. Louisville went on to reach the Elite Eight in the 2014 NCAA Division One Women’s Basketball Tournament. Last year’s field included such elite programs as Louisville, LSU, Oklahoma and Gonzaga. In 2011-12, a Preseason WNIT run was part of Baylor’s 40-0 season on its way to the National Championship.
