WKU BASKETBALL | Press Conference set for Monday 1pm CT

Western Kentucky will have a Monday afternoon press conference at 1 pm Central, according to a source with WKU. It is expected the Hilltoppers will name Rick Stansbury as the new Men’s Head Basketball Coach. Multiple outlets have reported Stansbury and WKU as being close to finalizing a deal.

Stansbury takes over for Ray Harper who resigned following the suspension of three players, junior guard Fredrick Edmond and freshman guards Marlon Hunter and Chris McNeal. The trio were suspended following a Disciplinary Committe hearing by the University last week.

Stansbury was most recently an assistant coach with Texas A&M. The Aggies were eliminated from the NCAA Tournament by Oklahoma Thursday night.

Stansbury is probably best known for his tenure as Head Coach at Mississippi State between 1998-2012, winning 293 games and leading the Bulldogs to six NCAA Tournament appearances.

Stansbury is from Battletown, Kentucky. His previous coaching stops included stints at his alma mater Campbellsville University and Cumberland College.
