Western Kentucky will not be playing in the NCAA Tournament. The Hilltoppers got all the way to the Conference USA Tournament semifinals, before running into a tough Old Dominion team.

The Hilltoppers fell behind the Monarchs by eight in the second half, before a 7-0 run cut ODU’s lead to just 68-67. However WKU seemed to run out of gas as Old Dominion scored six-straight to open a 74-67 advantage. Western would get no closer than four points, and in the end, ODU ran away for the 89-77 victory.

Aaron Cosby led the Hilltoppers with 21 points, but he was overshadowed by Old Dominion’s Trey Freeman. The guard set a Conference USA Tournament record with 42 points.

With the loss, Western Kentucky drops to 18-16. Old Dominion improves to 22-12. The Monarchs will meet Middle Tennessee in Saturday’s Conference USA championship. The winner gets the league’s automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.

The Hilltoppers now wait to see if any other Post Season Tournament, besides the NCAA,are interested in having WKU in their field.
