When news surfaced that Montrezl Harrell was no longer a captain for the Louisville basketball team, many questions were asked. What caused this? Is the team chemistry going to be messed up?
We will not know an answer to the latter until the Cards take the court against Pittsburgh, but we do know what sparked the removal of Trez’s captaincy. According to a story from Jeff Greer at the Courier Journal, Harrell himself decided to step down as a team captain. It all apparently stems from the way the junior forward has treated the UofL freshmen so far this season.
In the story, head coach Rick Pitino says Trez has been too hard on the young guys, and the way he was getting on to them was “killing their confidence.” And in a response to Harrell’s desire to get more out of his teammates, Pitino said, “you’ve got to let me be the bad guy.”
