Former Trinity Valley Community College defensive end Devonte Fields committed to UL during his visit Yesterday. He tweeted out the news, calling attention to his own drama.

He’s ESPN’s number three-rated junior college recruit, but he’s also facing misdemeanor assult charges from a situation involving his ex-girlfriend last summer. After he was charged he was dismissed from TCU, and even though he hasn’t been through the legal process yet, it looks like he will get this second chance at UL.

At 6-foot-3 and 250 pounds Fields earned Big 12 Defensive Player of the year as a freshman in 2012. According to ESPN he will sign on wednesday and enroll in summer school leaving him two seasons of eligibility at UL. cn|2 Sports’ Bruce Snyder and Tony Rawlings will tackle what a decision like this could mean for the program, that’s tonight on cn|2 Sports at 6:30 and 10:30 on cn|2.
