UofL WOMENS BASKETBALL | Cards' defense propelling them in win streak

The Louisville Women’s basketball team limited 18th ranked Duke to 17 points in the first half of their Sunday matchup, beating them by a final score of 65-48.

U of L improved to 12-5 overall, and remain unbeaten in conference play. For the third consecutive game, the Cards held their opponent to less than 40 percent shooting. Louisville also out-rebounded the Blue Devils 42 to 36. Louisville’s junior forward Cortnee Walton pulled in 12 of those boards to compliment her four points.

The Louisville offense also pulled their weight in the ACC victory with three Cards scoring in double figures. But despite an impressive offense showing, the Cards say this win came from sound defense.

Tony Rawlings and Bruce Snyder broke down the Cards win over Duke, and the impressive turnaround in a season that started 0-2.

One of the players in double figures versus Duke was Myisha Hines-Allen who recorded 14 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists. That performance in addition to her double-double effort against Virginia Tech, earned Hines-Allen the latest College Sports Madness Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week award.
