UofL Women Fall To UConn In National Championship Game

A day after the Louisville men’s basketball team celebrated a championship, the women couldn’t keep up with UConn. The Huskies won their eighth title in dominating fashion 93-60.
The Huskies’ defense locked down and kept the Cardinals shooting under 40 percent and held UofL to only five three-pointers out of 23 attempts. Sara Hammond was the only Cardinal in double digits, scoring 15 points, and the Schimmel sisters were held to six total baskets between the two of them. Louisville’s bench combined for 12 total points.
UConn on the other hand was on fire throughout the entire game, especially Breanna Stewart. She scored 23 points and was nine of 15 from the field. Stewart also grabbed nine rebounds, blocked three shots, and got three steals. She was a dominating force all over the court, and Louisville could not stop her.
UConn stopped Louisville’s improbable tournament run, which included wins over Baylor, Tennessee, and California. Baylor was a one seed, while the Volunteers and the Golden Bears were both two seeds. Louisville ended the season 29-9 overall.
