The Louisville Cardinals did not make it easy for themselves or their fans. But UofL rallies to survive a scrappy Michigan team, 4-3 is the final. The victory means the Cardinals are the last unbeaten team in this region and need just one more win to advance to the Super Regionals.

Michigan ace Brett Adcock shut down the Cardinals for 6 innings. The Wolverines had a 1-0 lead into the 7th when UofL’s Danny Rosenbaum came through with a clutch 2 out, 2 run homer. Louisville then adds an insurance run in the 8th to make it 3-1.

In the bottom of the 8th, Michigan rallies with 2 outs and nobody on. The Wolverines load the bases. Louisville brings in ace reliever Zack Burdi and Michigan pinch hitter Kyle Jusick stuns Burdi and the Cardinal fans by delivering a 2 run, 2 out single. We’re tied at 3 going to the 9th.

In the 9th, Louisville gets pinch runner Colin Lyman on third with just one out. Shortstop Devin Hairston fouls a pitch to right field. Wolverines outfielder Johnny Slater goes after the ball and makes a diving catch in foul territory. However that allows Lyman to tag and score the eventual game winning run.

Burdi gets a second chance to close out Michigan and he does, striking out Jacob Cronenworth to end the game.

The win sends Louisville into Sunday’s 4pm Winner’s bracket game. UofL will meet the winner of the noon elimination game between Bradley and Michigan. Should the Cards lose on Sunday, they would play Sunday’s opponent again on Monday. If Louisville wins on Sunday, the Cards then advance to the Super Regionals to host the winner of the Cal-State Fullerton Region.
