09/05/2016 08:30 PM

Lamar Jackson earned a prestigious weekly honor to start his sophomore season. After putting up eight total touchdowns in one half against Charlotte last Thursday, the Louisville quarterback was dubbed the National Offensive Player of the Week by the Walter Camp Football Foundation.

ESPN Louisville post game host Mark Ennis was on today’s show, and we talked about Lamar’s national recognition, and if U of L’s expectations have changed after a week one blowout.

From U of L:
After putting on one of the greatest offensive displays in school history, University of Louisville sophomore quarterback Lamar Jackson was named The Walter Camp Football Foundation National Offensive Player of Week.

He is the third Louisville player, and the first offensive honoree to earn the award — joining defensive standouts Gerod Holliman in 2014 and Elvis Dumervil in 2005.

In leading the Cardinals over Charlotte on Thursday night, Jackson accounted for a school record eight touchdowns — all coming in the first half — in the 70-14 season-opening win at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium.

Making his eighth career start at quarterback, Jackson completed 17-of-23 passes for 286 yards and tied a school record with six touchdown passes. The Pompano Beach, Fla., native also recorded his sixth career 100-yard rushing game by adding 119 yards and two scores. He opened the scoring with a 36-yard touchdown run and threw touchdown passes to six different receivers as the Cards scored 70 points for the second time in head coach Bobby Petrino’s tenure at Louisville.

The No. 19 Cardinals return to action on Friday, when it plays at Syracuse. Kickoff on ESPN2 is set for 8 p.m.
