UofL BASKETBALL | Eleven Cards put up points in win over Kentucky Wesleyan

Kentucky Wesleyan had a hard fought game against Western Kentucky on Friday night, and turned around for another one against a Louisville Cardinals team with a uniquely deep roster. Petrino called on his bench early and often with eleven players recording points and contributing 27 points, compared to just six from KWC’s bench.

Damion Lee lead all Louisville scorers with 19 points in 31 minutes of play. Chinanu Onuaku was the only other Card to put up double figures with 11, but was confined to the bench for about six minutes in the second half after picking up his fourth personal foul.

Louisville couldn’t quite put the game out of reach until late in the second half. KWC clawed back the entire game, and went on an 11 point run to lead by six in the first half. Wesleyan kept the game close, but Louisville was clearly the team in control. The Cardinals led for over 33 minutes, controlled the paint, and scored 23 points off KWC turnovers.

Another notable Cardinal performance was Quentin Snider with a game high four assists to go with his six points. Snider saw the second most minutes behind Lee.

Kentucky Wesleyan forward C.J Blackwell lead all scorers with 22 points, and KWC’s Jordan Jacks recorded the game’s only double-double.

Louisville will hope to take the momentum from two exhibition wins into their regular season opener this Friday against Samford University.

In a heartfelt moment, at the first media timeout of the game, Louisville gave an update on Kyle Kuric’s condition to the crowd and asked for a cheer they could send to him in Spain. The request was met with a standing ovation and a chant of “KYLE KURIC.”

Standing ovation for Kyle Kuric. #L1C4
