UofL Baseball | Why being ranked number 2, is not THAT big a deal
02/15/2016 08:00 PM
The Louisville Baseball Cardinals enter 2016 ranked second in just about every preseason poll. Many teams would not look forward to the added pressure. However the Cardinals say they are used to the attention, and will use it to motivate themselves.
Junior Reliever Zack Burdi says of the Cards, “It’s a very old team. There’s not a lot of youth on it. It’s a lot of leadership, a lot of older guys.” Burdi on Monday, was named to the Stopper of the Year Watch List. The right hander last year was 6-1 with nine saves and a 0.92 ERA in 20 relief appearances.
All told Louisville has five preseason All Americans. The Cards last year were eliminated in the Super Regionals, on their home field, so they are eager to take the next step and return to the College World Series, a destination they got to in the previous two years.
However that is a long ways off. The opener is Friday when the Cards host SIU-Edwardsville.
