He was projected as high as the number one overall pick in this years MLB draft, but Louisville Baseball’s star outfielder Corey Ray was taken with the number five pick by the Milwaukee Brewers. The junior All-American has hit .319 with 15 homers, 60 RBI and 44 stolen bases this season.

For the third straight year, Ray is playing in the Super Regional round of the NCAA tournament alongside the rest of his Cardinal teammates. U of L starts their weekend series with UC-Santa Barbara this Saturday at noon. The Cards tore through their Regional opponents and it has raised the question of: is the offense playing better than the pitching staff?

Ray wasn’t the only Cardinal selected in the first round. Closing pitcher Zack Burdi was picked 26th overall by the Chicago Whit Sox, and junior catcher Will Smith was picked 32nd by Los Angeles Dudgers.
