UofL BASEBALL | Cards win a thriller and sweep Clemson

04/17/2016 05:56 PM

Corey Ray’s single with two outs in the ninth, drove in Colin Lyman with the game winning run, as sixth ranked Louisville defeats number 16 Clemson 9-8, sweeping the three game series. This game had four lead changes and two ties.

Former number one starter Kyle Funkhouser continues to struggle. The righty allowed three Tiger runs in the first, and five runs in just five innings. However the Cards bats were popping again today, to help pick up the pitching. Ray was 2-for-5 with 3 RBI, including the game winning hit, as the outfielder raised his average to .331, while every Louisville starter got at least one hit. Shane Hummel pitched a perfect ninth to pick up his second win this week, raising his record to 2-0.

It was quite a week for Louisville, playing and winning, five games in six days.
The Cards improve to 29-7 overall, 13-5 in the ACC while Clemson falls to 24-12, 8-10 in the conference. Next up for UofL is a Tuesday night home game against Kentucky. This will be the second time in as many weeks these two meet. Last Wednesday Louisville beat Kentucky in Lexington 9-6. One note: if you are going to the game, this is the only regular season game that you will need to buy a ticket, to get into Jim Patterson Stadium. The Cards-Cats contest, takes place Tuesday at 6pm.
