UofL BASEBALL | Cards sweep Hokies
04/04/2016 10:20 PM
It wasn’t the 13-0 shutout of the night before, but it was another victory. Louisville scored eight runs over the final two innings, to break open a close game, and defeat Virginia Tech 9-3, sweeping all three games from the Hokies.
Kyle Funkhouser pitched seven strong innings to pick up his third win in five decisions. Zach Burdi pitched the final inning and two-thirds for his third save on the season.
The Cards, who have now won five in a row, once again pounded the ball, scoring 9 runs on 11 hits, although VA Tech kept the game close. A two run Hokies 8th inning, cut UofL’s advantage to just one run, 4-3. But the Cards broke the game open with a five run eighth. Devin Mann had the big hit, a two run single.
The 4th ranked Cards improve to 23-5 overall, 9-3 in the ACC, while Virginia Tech, which has now dropped 14 in a row, falls to 10-19, 1-11 in the conference. Louisville now goes outside the ACC to play at arch rival Kentucky. Wednesday night’s game starts at 7:30pm ET and will be televised on ESPNU.
