UofL BASEBALL | Cards sweep away Cougars in season's first series
02/21/2016 05:37 PM
If the rest of the season goes the way the first three games do, UofL Baseball fans will have plenty to cheer about. The Cardinals not only swept Southern Illinois Edwardsville, they blew out the Cougars in all three games. In the latest, Junior lefty Drew Harrington struck out nine in six innings as Louisville pounded SIU Edwardsville on Sunday, 10-1.
The Louisville Cardinals pounded the ball, scoring at least 10 runs and winning by at least nine runs in all three games. In fact, UofL outscored the Cougars by 38 runs, 21-4 on Friday, 12-0 on Saturday and 10-1 on Sunday.
Outfielder Corey Ray went 2 for 3 with a home run, two RBI, three stolen bases, four runs scored, and a great catch to boot.
Louisville is ranked second in most of the polls, but probably will not move up in any of the rankings. Number one Florida also swept a three-game series from Florida Gulf Coast, winning Sunday 12-3.
The Cards will rest their bats and arms on Monday and then host Eastern Kentucky on Tuesday at 3 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.
