Multiple rain delays frustrated the Cards but they didn’t let it impact their game. The No. 1 seed Cards beat No. 2 Ohio State 15-3 Saturday.
Brendan McKay allowed no runs and only three hits. Danny Rosenbaum, the first recipient of the Muhammad Ali Leadership Baseball Scholarship, got his first career two home run game. Rosenbaum said in the post game news conference that Ali was his idol and it was a strange feeling playing today knowing that Ali was gone. Ali was honored with a moment of silence before the first pitch at Jim Patterson Stadium.
Coach Dan McDonnell attributes the team’s victory to the offense staying relaxed and being off to a great start in the 1st. McDonnell said Brendan McKay set the pace in the first inning. McKay was dialed-in and able to launch a two out, two run home run to right giving the Cards a 2-0 lead at the bottom of the 1st.
Next up Sunday at 4 the Cards will take on the winner of tomorrow’s midday game between Ohio State and Wright State.
