University of Louisville names interim President after James Ramsey resigns

07/28/2016 04:03 PM

UofL Board of Trustees Chairman Junior Bridgeman announced Thursday night that Executive Vice President & Provost Dr. Neville Pinto will serve as Interim President while the Board searches for a new President.

Dr. Pinto was appointed Interim Executive Vice President & Provost of UofL in October of 2015 before having being named to the position permanently in March of 2016. Prior to his appointment as Provost Dr Pinto had served as dean of the engineering school and professor of chemical engineering since Sept. 2011

The Board also voted to begin a search for a new President immediately.

Another topic that the Chairman touched on, that many find concerning, is the future of Dr. James Ramsey in his role as President of the University of Louisville Foundation. The Board has no jurisdiction over the foundation and Dr. Ramsey did not indicate his intentions, regarding the foundation, at the meeting on Thursday when offering his resignation as school President. Bridgeman said that he expects no decision from the foundation until September at earliest. He went on to say that Dr. Ramsey would continue to receive a check as President of the UofL Foundation until then.

The Board did agree, Thursday night, to accept Dr. James Ramsey’s resignation as University President effective immediately. Dr. Ramsey had offered to stay on as interim but the Board decided against that. Dr. Ramsey’s buyout, a total of $690,000, covers one year of salary as well as pay for administrative leave that was due per his existing contract.

Here is the settlement agreement:
