Tight End Tyler Higbee was taken in Round Four of Saturday’s NFL Draft, by the Los Angeles Rams, the 110th overall pick. He becomes WKU’s highest offensive draft pick of all-time.
Despite playing in only nine games this past season because of injury, Higbee still caught 38 passes for 563 yards and eight touchdowns. He’s considered both a solid pass catcher and good run blocker.
Higbee probably would have gone higher in the draft if not for an incident on April 10th. He is facing charges for second-degree assault and evading police, as well as public intoxication, for an altercation that took place outside of a Bowling Green bar. Higbee’s attorney has said he plans to plead not guilty at the May 5th arraignment.
If he gets his legal situation resolved, Higbee could potentially face a big season statistically since the Rams drafted highly touted California Quarterback Jared Goff with the top overall pick. During a conference call, Higbee said he feels with his size and speed, he can create mismatches with linebackers and safeties. Higbee is listed at 6-foot-6, 249 pounds.
