Tonalist rides to Belmont Stakes victory, spoils Triple Crown hopes

Horse racing fans must wait another year before realizing hopes of seeing the next Triple Crown winner. Tonalist upset Triple Crown hopeful California Chrome on Saturday, taking the last leg of the series at the Belmont Stakes in New York.
Tonalist started the race at 11-1 odds to win. California Chrome dead heated for fourth with Wicked Strong.
Tonalist is a three-year-old colt by Robert S. Evans, trained by Christophe Clement and ridden by Joel Rosario.
For the fifth time in eight years, the winner of the Belmont Stakes did not run in the earlier legs of the Triple Crown. California Chrome’s owner, Steve Coburn, expressed his frustrations after the race in horses that skipped the Derby and Preakness. Coburn said doing so is, “the coward’s way out.”
