But Watson acknowledged to reporters during a press conference on Monday that Woods’ recovery from a back injury played a role in his performance and he would continue to monitor his play during the next three weeks.
Watson told reporters that he trusts the players understand he wants them playing at their best by September 2 when he is scheduled to announce his final picks for the tournament which will take place in Scotland on September 23. When questioned further, Watson told the media that Woods said, “I want you to pick me.”
