THOMAS MORE | The Saints run the table again
04/04/2016 08:32 PM
Thomas More is not only a two-time champion, but a perfect two-time champion. For the second straight year, the Saints have run the table in women’s basketball, winning the Division III championship without a blemish on their record.
Sophomore guard Abby Owings had a game-high 17 points, while senior guard/forward Sydney Moss finished with 14 points and nine rebounds, as Thomas More defeated Tufts, 63-51, in the Division III finals in Indianapolis.
The game was actually closer than it appeared, tied in the fourth quarter at 49-all. That’s when the Saints went on one of their patented runs, outscoring Tufts, 14-2, over the final 5:58. With the victory, Thomas More concludes the season with a perfect 33-0 record. That’s also the same mark the Saints had last year when they won it all. In fact, you have to go back to March 15, 2014 to find their last loss. So over the past three seasons, Thomas More is an unbelievable 97-1.
The Saints will lose their leader as Sydney Moss graduates, but there is plenty of talent left for Thomas More to think three-peat. That’s for another time. Right now, the Saints will rest, relax and bask in their second straight national championship. Congratulations to the Thomas More Saints.
