There is one addition to Churchill Downs’ restricted items list for the 2016 Kentucky Derby and Oaks and it is a sign of the times.
Churchill Downs’ security list of DOs and DON’Ts for May 6-7 instructs fans to leave their hoverboards at home. But if you simply can’t do so, you’ll have to leave it at the admission gate.
Hoverboards have generated safety concerns since gaining popularity over the past year or so, including incidents of the motorized boards catching fire. It’s not the first time Churchill Downs has added new pieces of technology to its list of banned items. In 2015, the track restricted selfie sticks, drones and remote-controlled aircraft.
