(VIDEO) — As the Louisville reserves were coming up with big shots in the second half of Saturday night’s game, starting forward Chane Behanan started doing what fans and his teammates had come to expect of him earlier in season.
Behanan had 10 points and 9 rebounds, including six in the second half in Louisville’s 72-68 win over Wichita State. None were bigger than an offensive board after Russ Smith missed his layup with 3:02 left in the game. Behanan then tipped in the ball to put Louisville up 62-60.
That allowed the Cards to play keep the Shockers at bay for the rest of the game.
Behanan had taken more of a secondary role — in scoring and rebounds — over the last month. He lost scored in double-digits on Feb. 27 against DePaul when he also had 10 points and 9 rebounds.
“He was big inside tonight. And more than that, I was so pleased he wanted the ball,” Coach Rick Pitino said of Behanan after the game.
“That’s the Chane that everyone wants to see,” Stephan Van Treese told cn|2 Sports in the locker room. Here’s what else the players, Behanan and Pitino had to say about Behanan’s role in Saturday night’s win.
