Cards fumble away a chance at victory
09/13/2014 04:13 PM
21st ranked Louisville suffered its first loss of the season, as Virginia rallied to beat the Cards 23-21. UofL played a sloppy game. Sophomore Quarterback Will Gardner threw two interceptions and the Cardinals fumbled the ball away two more times. The last turnover was the worst one. Late in the 4th quarter with a 21-20 lead, Louisville was receiving a punt. As James Quick was settling under the ball, teammate Michaelee Harris ran into him, causing a fumble, that UVA recovered. The Cavaliers converted it into the eventual game winning field goal.
Gardner finished 14 of 34 for 164 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. Freshman Reggie Bonnafon, in limited action, was 6 of 9 for 39 yards. With the loss Louisville falls to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the ACC. Virginia is also 2-1 overall and 1-0 in conference. Next weekend the Cards are back on the road when they travel to Miami to play Florida International. Kickoff is at 3:30pm.
