The Bluegrass impact of the Tampa Bay Ray's trip to Cuba

03/22/2016 05:46 PM

The Tampa Bay Rays visited the island nation of Cuba for a exhibition baseball game against the Cuban National team earlier today. They are the first Major League Baseball team to play in the socialist country in 17 years, and the exhibition coincided with the visit of President Barack Obama.

The meeting of the two country’s leaders and the friendly competition between two elite baseball clubs served as emphasis that both nations are interested in working together to mediate their conflicted pasts.

cn|2 Sports had the chance to speak with Luis Fuentes, a Cuban-American living in Frankfort who writes a monthly news publication for Spanish speaking Kentuckians. Luis believes baseball has the potential to help with the normalizing of the United States – Cuban relationship, and more importantly provides an avenue of information for Cuban citizens.
