The Sporting News is compiling their top ten college players for the upcoming season by position, and they selected Louisville’s Montrezl Harrell as the top power forward in the country.

The 6’8”, 235 lbs junior averaged 14 points and 8.4 rebounds a game last season for the Cards. The Sporting News called Harrell’s decision to return for his junior season at UofL the “more surprising of any potential draft candidate.”

The desire to compete in the ACC as well as wanting to refine his jump shot and free throw shooting ultimately led Harrell back to Louisville.

Head coach Rick Pitino believes that staying another year could benefit Montrezl the same was it did Gorgui when he returned for the 2012 season.

UofL and UK are both well represented on the Sporting News lists so far. Kentucky’s Aaron Harrison was ranked as the top shooting guard, and his brother Andrew Harrison was rated as the 5th best point guard going into the 2014-2015 season.
