Russ Smith Speaks on Trade to Pelicans

Former Cardinal Guard Russ Smith was selected by the Philadelphia 76ers with the 47th overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft.

But Russdiculous wouldn’t be a Sixer for long, as Philly traded him to the New Orleans Pelicans for guard Pierre Jackson.

Jackson was initially selected by the Sixers in the 2013 draft but his rights were traded to the Pelicans on draft night. Jackson however, couldn’t land a spot on the team. After a brief stint overseas, he landed in the NBDL where he averaged more than 29 points and six assists per game.

Russ Smith chose not to watch the 2014 draft. Instead, he shot basketball with friends at the Cardinals’ practice facility. He feels like his size is one of the reasons he was taken so late in the draft, despite meeting many of the criteria NBA general managers look for in a point guard.
