Ride on Curlin looks for rematch with new jockey

Ride on Curlin, the colt who finished 7th on Saturday at the Kentucky Derby, and trainer Billy Gowan are itching for another shot at California Chrome, and they will get it in two weeks at the Preakness Stakes.

When Ride on Curlin takes the track in Baltimore it will be with jockey Joel Rosario, who rode General A Rod in the Derby. Gowan was unhappy with the ride his horse got from jockey Calvin Borel in the Derby. In an interview with Bloodhorse.com, he said, “I told [Borel] before the race that he had three-eighths of a mile to work his way over.”

Instead Borel went straight out of the gate to the rail that left him six lengths behind the next to last horse in the race going into the first turn. By the time Borel was able to weave through traffic and get back to the outside, he made a nice stretch run but it was too little too late.

Ride on Curlin is expected to return to the track on Wednesday.
