Post positions are set for Saturday's Belmont Stakes

06/04/2014 10:23 AM

Saturday will mark the 146th running of the Belmont Stakes. The race, held at historic Belmont Park in Elmont, NY, is the third and final jewel in horse racing’s Triple Crown. Only 11 horses have laid claim to the Triple Crown but none since Affirmed in 1978.

There have been 19 horses to win the first two legs of the Triple Crown (The Kentucky Derby and the Preakness) but come up short in the 1 1/2 mile Belmont Stakes. The last being Big Brown back in 2008.

Horse racing’s latest hopeful will be California Chrome. The Colt, out of Lucky Pulpit, will break from the #2 position and was installed as the morning line favorite at 3-5. California Chrome will get a rematch with Commanding Curve, the second place finisher in the Derby who bypassed the Preakness. Commanding Curve will start from post position #4 and sits at 15-1. Joining Commanding Curve will be Wicked Strong. Wicked Strong finished third in the Derby and also bypassed the Preakness. Wicked Strong is the morning line second choice at 6-1. The colt will start from post position #9
