Trainer Todd pletcher has announced that he will not have a horse in this Saturday’s Preakness, the second leg of Horse Racing’s Triple Crown.
Among the bigger name horses skipping the race are grade I winners Materiality and Carpe Diem, who finished sixth and 10th, respectively, in the May 2 Kentucky Derby. Pletcher is considering both horses for the June 6th Belmont.
With the absense of the Pletcher horses, the Preakness field is expected to only have seven horse. That does include the top three finishers in the Kentucky Derby, winner American Pharoah, runner-up Firing Line and Dortmund.
