Pitino says Cardinals have a long way to go

In a scrimmage that was not nearly as close as the final score would indicate, the Louisville Cardinals White team defeated the Red squad 89-86. Montrezl Harrell led the winners with 24 points and eight rebounds while Terry Rozier added 19 points. Chris Jones was the overall high scorer in a losing effort, putting in 28 points, including four 3-pointers. The White squad led by better than 20 points in the second half, before the red team rallied to make the final tally respectable.
After the game, Head Coach Rick Pitino said his overall squad has a long way to go. When I asked him if he is looking forward to playing another team, Pitino said his team still needs lots of practice before it can focus on other opponents. He said this year’s team is the weakest physically of any team he has coached in the past four years. Pitino added the veterans like Harrell, Jones and Wayne Blackshear are in basketball shape, but many of the younger players need to bulk up.
Louisville is back in action Saturday. UofL will host Barry. It’s the first of two exhibitions at the YUM Center before the Cardinals begin the regular season November 14th against Minnesota at a U.S. Air station in Puerto Rico.
