The top-15 match up between Louisville and Cincinnati did not lack dramatics, but the Cards fell to the Bearcats 69-66. Cincy led the Cards by eight at halftime and built on that lead at the beginning of the second half. UofL went on an 11-0 run to cut the lead to four with 13:59 left in the game. After that point, the game really began.
For most of the last 14 minutes, neither team led by more than a basket or two. Louisville took their first lead since the opening possession with 5:03 left on a Russ Smith three-pointer that put the Cards up 64-61. With six seconds left, Cincinnati guard Sean Kilpatrick made two free throws to extend the Bearcats lead to three. In the final seconds of the game, Luke Hancock missed a three-pointer to tie the game.
The Cards could not stop Kilpatrick, who scored 28 points and grabbed five rebounds. Montrezl Harrell led the Cards in scoring 18 points with Luke Hancock and Russ Smith adding 16 points each. In his return, Chis Jones scored six points and grabbed two rebounds.
