Midnight Hawk, nosed out at the wire this past Saturday at the Illinois Derby, has been scratched from the Derby via a text from trainer Bob Baffert to Churchill Downs today.

Baffert had said Sunday that Midnight Hawk would be considered “only if the field continued to have more defections.” The colt, out of Midnight Lute, was considered a long shot to make the Run for the Roses on May 3.

With the decision to pull Midnight Hawk Louisville-based Harry’s Holiday, owned by Skychai Racing and Terry Raymond, now moves into the field.
