Marion County’s Makayla Epps scored 15 points to lead the Lady Knights to a 52-36 win over Notre Dame in the state title game of the KHSAA Girls Sweet 16. The win clinched an undefeated season for the Region five champion Lady Knights, who were runners up last year. Epps, who is a UK signee and the Gatorade Kentucky Girls Player of the Year, was also named the Sweet 16’s Most Valuable Player. Fellow UK signee Kyvin Goodin-Rogers scored 10 points for the Lady Knights. Notre Dame held Marion County to its lowest scoring total of the state tournament. But the Pandas couldn’t capitalize, hitting just 14 of 44 shots. Saturday’s win marked the first Girls Sweet 16 title for Marion County in eight state tournament appearances.
