Louisville’s softball team dug themselves into a hole as they dropped the first game of the Columbia Regional in the NCAA tournament Thursday night. The Cards quickly fell behind to Nebraska in a two-run deficit in the 2nd inning. However, they came right back to tie the score at 2 in the third on Hailey Smith’s two-run single to center.

The game remained deadlocked for the next 3 and a half innings until Nebraska sent a ball past diving shortstop Sidney Melton to score on a walk-off single in the bottom of the 7th. The Huskers intentionally walked Kiki Stokes in order to load the bases for MJ Knighten, who delivered the game-winning blow.

The Cards are not out of it yet, though, as they go on to face BYU on Friday at 4:30pm in an elimination game.
