Louisville cruises past LSU in the Sweet Sixteen

The UofL women’s basketball team returned home to the Yum! Center and had no trouble dispatching the No. 7 LSU Tigers 73-47 in the Sweet Sixteen. The No. 3 Cards held LSU to just 24 percent shooting from the field. LSU Guard Danielle Ballard scored 24 points for the Tigers, leading all scorers on either team. UofL’s Shoni Schimmel led the Cards with 19 points, followed by Tia Gibbs off the bench.

Louisville moves on to the Elite Eight, where the Cards will face No. 4 Maryland Tuesday at the Yum! Center. The Terrapins upset No. 1 Tennessee 73-62 in the Sweet Sixteen. Maryland forward Alyssa Thomas won the shoot out with Volunteers’ guard Meighan Simmons, as Thomas scored 33 points to Simmons’ 31 in the Maryland-Tennessee match-up. The Elite Eight game between Maryland and Louisville will tip off at 7 p.m. ET.
