Soccer fans in the city of Louisville rallied around the announcement that a pro soccer team was coming to town. But when Louisville City FC (Division III) unveiled a new logo, the fans were less than pleased on social media to say the least. Some even designed their own logos as alternatives.
What do you get when you put three clip art elements together? The new Louisville soccer logo. We can do better. #LCFClogo— Jeremy Booth (@jeremybooth) June 3, 2014
Louisville City FC quickly made lemonade out of lemons. They invited fans to submit their own designs into a logo contest, but there are few guidelines. Each design must use Louisville’s symbol (the Fleur de Lis), a bourbon barrel and the color purple. The name “Louisville City” must also be in the logo somewhere, and the design needs to be in a badge or crest format. It’s a brilliant move. Fans cared enough to complain about a logo they didn’t like, so the team management gives those same fans an input in the next design. So, let the best logo win.
