In what is being referred to as one of the closest races in the history of the Steamboat race The Belle of Cincinnati slipped under the Clark Memorial Bridge just ahead of the Belle of Louisville.

The crews of both boats went head-to-head all day, competing in a series of tasks leading up to the 54th annual race on the river. After all points were tallied, it was determined the coveted 12-point silver antlers would be awarded to the Belle of Cincinnati, ending Louisville’s four year streak.

The points system used in determining the winner was put in place before the race in 2009. Points are earned by completing a series of tasks:

• Task No. 1: Jousting inflatable competition (Belle of Louisville 5, Belle of Cincinnati 10)
• Task No. 2: Obstacle inflatable course (Belle of Louisville 10, Belle of Cincinnati 5)
• Task No. 3: Handy line toss (Belle of Louisville 5, Belle of Cincinnati 10)
• Task No. 4: Monkey fist toss (Belle of Louisville 10, Belle of Cincinnati 5)
• Task No. 5: Miniature Paddle Wheel Assembly (Belle of Louisville 10, Belle of Cincinnati 5)
• Task No. 6: Calliope contest (Belle of Louisville 5, Belle of Cincinnati 10)
