Kentucky wins Battle of the Bluegrass 75-73

The Battle of the Bluegrass was full of runs and included five ties and three lead changes in the first half alone. Kentucky ultimately pulled out the 75-73 victory in a physical, back and forth battle. The Cats victory marks Calipari’s 200th win at Kentucky.

UK was led by Tyler Ulis who finished with 21 points on 7-12 shooting and eight assists. Ulis entered today’s game shooting just 26% from three but made 4-7 in the win over Louisville. Alex Poythress added 14 points and six rebounds. Kentucky was dangerous from the three point line. The Cats hit 11 of 23 from deep. After the game Rick Pitino’s assistant, Ralph Willard, spoke to the media.

Early in the second half, Kentucky held a 16 point lead. Louisville slowly chipped away at the lead and went on a long run to cut it to 75-73 but then Damion Lee, who finished with a season high 27 points, missed a game winning three pointer at the buzzer.

Trey Lewis added 15 points. The Cats are now 10-2 and will have a week off before facing Ole Miss to open SEC play. The Cards are 11-2 and will play Wake Forest next Sunday.
