Johnny Cueto, on the mound at PNC Park for the first time since last year’s season-ending wildcard game, shut down Pittsburgh and out-dueled former teammate Edison Volquez as the Reds took the game 4-1.

Cueto pitched his second consecutive complete game gave up three hits and struck out four. A solo shot from Andrew McCutchen in the top of the ninth ended Cueto’s scoreless innings streak at 21.

A couple of former Louisville Bats came up big last night as Billy Hamilton went 2-5 and stole his eighth base of the season, making Hamilton the fourth best in the majors in stolen bases. Outfielder Jay Bruce also chipped in going 2-4 with an RBI.

Cincinnati and Pittsburgh go at it again tonight with the Reds throwing Alfredo Simon against Charlie Morton. Simon, filling in for the injured Matt Latos, has been on fire recently. In three starts he is 2-1 with an ERA of 0.86. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. and will be televised on FOX Sports Ohio, TWC channel 55 or 930.
