Newly acquired pitcher John Lamb made his first start as a Bat on Wednesday night, but it took him a costly inning to find his stride. After beginning the game with a walk, the Knights brought home three runs in the first inning to get an early jump on Louisville.
Lamb settled down for the next four innings, allowing no runs and getting eight strikeouts. However, an inability to get it done on offense plagued the Bats, as they were only able to score two runs in the fourth and fifth.
After pulling Lamb, the Bats again got off to a shaky pitching start as reliever Sam LeCure allowed two more runs in the sixth inning. Charlotte put a ninth inning exclamation point on the win as Jason Coats sent a line drive to left field for a solo home run and the Knights’ final score.
The Bats will try to square up the series in the final game with Charlotte Thursday night at 7:05pm.
