The Louisville Cardinals were favored by 21 points over Wake Forest, and yet starting the fourth quarter, the Demon Deacons were the ones leading 10-7. However Brandon Radcliff broke a 16 yard run for a touchdown, and John Wallace kicked 2 field goals in the final 8:12. Louisville rallied for the 20-10 victory.
Radcliff was the star statistically, rushing for 130 yards, and 2 touchdowns, and finishing with 160 all purpose yards. The Cards defense was the star overall, sacking Wake Forest freshman QB John Wolford 8 times. In fact because sacks count against a team’s rushing average, Wake Forest finished with MINUS 2 yards rushing.
UofL Freshman Quarterback Reggie Bonnafon, making his first start, wound up 16 of 32 for 206 yards passing and 71 yards rushing. Bonnafon did have a very costly fumble deep in his own territory that accounted for the Deacs only touchdown, but overall Coach Bobby Petrino seemed happy with Bonnafon, saying in his post game press conference that he was very impressed with Bonnafon’s effort and attitude.
With the win Louisville improves to 4-1 overall, 2-1 in the ACC, while Wake Forest falls to 2-3, 0-1 in the conference. The Cardinals have a short week, playing at Syracuse this Friday night.
