He was bettors’ second choice leading up to the Derby before being scratched by trainer Bob Baffert due to a bruised foot. It was a bruise that would keep him out of the Preakness next Saturday as well. But now, after a full exam at Rood & Riddle equine hospital in Lexington, the colt was discovered to have a bone spur that will cause him to miss the Belmont too.

“It was a combination; his foot had a bruise but when they x-rayed him, they saw he had a spur in the fetlock,” Baffert told bloodhorse.com. “It was small but as long as we were going to stop on him, they went ahead and took it out.”

The colt underwent surgery on Monday in Lexington and is expected to recuperate in Kentucky before resuming his racing career later this summer.
