Hilltoppers will play Drake to open the Gulf Coast Showcase

Western Kentucky University announced yesterday that the basketball team will play in the opening game of the 2015 Gulf Coast showcase against the Bulldogs of Drake University on Monday, November 23.

The last time the two teams faced each other was in the 2008 NCAA national tournament when Hilltopper shooting guard Ty Rogers hit a buzzer beater in overtime to give WKU a 101-99 victory. The Toppers then knocked off San Diego to reach the sweet sixteen before losing to final four bound UCLA.

The tournament takes place in Germain Arena in Estero, FL. WKU will either play Central Michigan or Weber State on the second day of the tournament which wraps up Wednesday, November 25.

Other teams playing in the tournament include fellow Kentucky school Murray State, Pepperdine, and Milwaukee. The teams will play three games in three days.
