Governor's Cup Classic to be held, despite missing one guest of honor
07/23/2014 10:30 AM
The annual Governor’s Cup Classic is scheduled for today and the big headline this year is the fact that UK head coach Mark Stoops opted not to attend. However, Louisville’s new head coach Bobby Petrino is expected, along with Governor Steve Beshear and other familiar faces.
The traditional luncheon is paired with a charity golf event that raises money for Dare to Care. It celebrates the upcoming football season for both the Kentucky Wildcats and Louisville Cardinals, along with the teams’ annual rivalry game traditionally held early in the schedule. This year, the Governor’s Cup will be the season-ending game on November 29.
