With just 8 days until the 139th Running of the Preakness Stakes General A Rod has decided to enter the second jewel of racings triple crown next Saturday in Baltimore.

General A Rod, who finished 11th in the Kentucky Derby, will be ridden by Javier Castellano. Castellano has previously ridden the colt to a second place finish in The Fountain of Youth Stakes back in February. Joel Rosario, who rode General A Rod in the Derby will be aboard Ride on Curlin for the Preakness.

General A Rod now brings the Preakness field to six: Derby winner California Chrome, Ride On Curlin, who finished 7th in the Derby and shortly thereafter dropped jockey Calvin Borel in favor of Rosario, and newcomers Kid Cruz, Social Inclusion, Dynamite Impact and Pablo Del Monte. Pablo Del Monte, you may remember, was an also eligible for the Derby but elected not to run due to a poor post position.

Three more horses, Bayern, Ring Weekend and Ria Antonia are currently listed as pending but are expected to run.
