Former Runhappy trainer files lawsuit post Breeders' Cup termination

The former trainer of Breeders’ Cup Sprint winner Runhappy has filed a lawsuit against Gallery Racing Stables, LLC, the horse’s owners, Keeneland Association, Inc. and Breeders’ Cup Limited.
The suit is in response to Maria Borell’s termination shortly after the race in late October. Borell cites breach of contract and defamation in her complaint. She is seeking breeding rights and ten percent of purse winnings for Runhappy and Triple Hott, a Gallery Racing Stables horse also trained by Borell.
Borell also accuses James and Linda McIngvale, the owners of Runhappy, of making false statements about Borell’s knowledge and concern for the well-being of horses. She says the statements have hurt and continue to hurt her professional reputation.
A hearing is scheduled in Fayette County on Friday.
